Development of the project on personalised medicine in Finland by centers of excellence
The joint project between the Finnish Cancer Center (FICAN), Neurocenter Finland, and six biobanks aims to strengthen the collaboration and role of the centers of excellence in research, development and innovation (RDI) activities, as well as promote the use of personalised medicine. The project includes ten subprojects. All FICAN regional centers as well as the coordinating unit will take part in the project. FICAN East is particularly involved in two subprojects, which aim to advance the operations of the national Molecular Tumor Board (MTB), as well as utilize biobanks to identify potential participants for clinical research studies.
EU-projects
Personalised Cancer Medicine (PCM)
The main aim of the Personalised Cancer Medicine collaborative project is to expand the availability of personalised cancer medicine in EU member states. The project will focus on developing national guidelines and protocols for cancer diagnostics and treatment, as well as advancing collaboration and the sharing of knowledge among EU countries. The Finnish Ministry of Social Affairs and Health has named the participating Finnish partners in the summer of 2024, and the application for the collaborative 20 million euro project involving EU member states was sent in the beginning of 2025. The project will start later in the year 2025, and will be joined by FICAN East and the University of Eastern Finland from the Eastern collaborative area.
