EU initiatives and working groups

Several cancer-specific initiatives and working groups operate within the EU, focusing on cancer prevention, treatment, and research. FICAN actively strives to participate in these important EU-level working groups and networks to ensure that Finland’s cancer experts are involved in developing and advancing high-quality cancer care across Europe. In this way, FICAN also promotes national expertise and ensures that Finland’s needs and perspectives are considered in the development of EU cancer policies.

e-Cancer Expert Group

The EU is developing digital infrastructure related to cancer care to enhance the quality of cancer treatment and research, particularly through the Cancer Mission and the European Beating Cancer Plan. To support this, a new eCancer Expert Group has been established, consisting of cancer and data experts from EU member states. The group’s role is to advise on the use of cancer data, supporting platforms such as UNCAN.eu and the European Cancer Patient Digital Centre, aimed at improving cancer patient care and advancing cancer research.
