Cancer quality registry project
The Finnish Cancer Registry, the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL), and the Finnish Cancer Center (FICAN) have jointly launched a feasibility study (research project) to establish a national cancer quality registry. The primary objective of the project is to investigate how data from existing national registers can be used to assess the implementation of cancer care and treatment outcomes in Finland. The project evaluates predefined performance and quality indicators (including access to treatment, delivery of care, and treatment outcomes) in selected, predefined patient groups.
Quality registry project reports
The reports published within the project provide information on cancer diagnostics and treatment in Finland. They also aim to assess the representativeness and quality of healthcare data, as well as the effectiveness of the care provided.
Lung Cancer

Lung Cancer in Finland 2018–2022 – An Overview of the Quality of Lung Cancer Care. (in Finnish) Published in 2024. The report is based on data on new primary lung cancer cases reported to the Finnish Cancer Registry between 1 January 2018 and 30 June 2022.
Lung Cancer in Finland 2019–2023 – An Overview of Diagnostics, Care Pathways and Quality of Care. (in Finnish) Published in 2026. The report is based on data on new primary lung cancer cases reported to the Finnish Cancer Registry between 1 January 2019 and 31 December 2023.
Multiple Myeloma
Clinical expert for the registry pilot: Mervi Putkonen, MD, Specialist in Internal Medicine and Hematology
Multiple Myeloma in Finland 2019–2023 – An Overview of Myeloma Diagnostics and Treatment. (in Finnish) Published in 2026. The report includes patients who were granted a new entitlement to reimbursement for medicines between 2019 and 2023.
Colorectal Cancer
Clinical expert for the registry pilot: Anna Lepistö, MD, Specialist in General Surgery and Gastrointestinal Surgery
The pilot was launched in June 2026.
