Organisation of European Cancer Institutes (OECI)
FICAN, together with wellbeing service counties and hospitals, work for more equal and knowledge-based cancer care. A central part of the mission is the equal access to high-quality cancer care for all patients, commitment to continuous improvement and implementation of the quality culture for cancer care through uniform standards/indicators.
OECI (Organisation of European Cancer Institutes) is a European organization that brings together cancer research and treatment centers and networks. OECI aims to promote best practices and meaningful organization in cancer care and related research to improve quality and outcomes and ensure equitable cancer care.
The Finnish Cancer Center was accepted as a member of the Organisation of European Cancer Institutes (OECI) in June 2024. FICAN is the first national cancer network to be accepted as a member of OECI. FICAN’s OECI membership strengthens Finland’s commitment to advancing cancer care and research.
Using common standards and best practices, FICAN strives to improve the quality and consistency of cancer care and research across the country. By closely leveraging OECI’s operations and network, FICAN works for high-quality care and research for patients.
OECI Accreditation Program
The OECI Accreditation and Designation Program (A&D Program) is a key tool for continuous quality improvement. Accreditations are awarded in three categories: OECI Cancer Centre (CC), OECI Comprehensive Cancer Centre (CCC), and OECI Comprehensive Cancer Network (CCN). All these categories require a high level of multidisciplinary collaboration and quality cancer care.
Participation in the program is voluntary and only open to members of OECI.
