Research
Research plays a crucial role in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer. The significantly improved outcomes in cancer treatment are a result of long-term translational and clinical research. In the future, increasingly personalized cancer treatment will require even closer integration of research into care, which we promote through the national personalized medicine program. Research is also becoming increasingly data-intensive, necessitating safe and efficient usage environments, high-quality real-world data, and individualized information about cancer tumors.
Research is a central part of the Finnish Cancer Center’s activities. Under the leadership of the national FICAN Science group, we promote major national and international research projects such as FINPROVE and iCAN, and support new significant projects in collaboration with foundations, centers of excellence, and companies. FICAN is also involved in international research collaborations and projects. By participating in international networks and projects, we can access the latest research knowledge and technologies and ensure that Finnish cancer patients benefit from the most advanced treatments available.
