We are opening the project call for 2026 and will fund projects in line with FICAN South’s priority areas. FICAN South project funding is administered by HUS, and the funding must be used by the end of 2026.

A total of EUR 200,000 in project funding can be granted for 2026.

Funding is available for smaller collaborative projects (EUR 15,000–35,000 per project) and for new or ongoing clinical research projects (max. EUR 50,000 per project). Projects are required to have all necessary official permits in place.

Each project must involve participants from at least two FICAN South contracting parties (HUS, University of Helsinki, South Karelia Wellbeing Services County, Kymenlaakso Wellbeing Services County, Päijät-Häme Wellbeing Services County), and the project leader must be from one of the contracting parties. Applications involving several Wellbeing Services Counties of FICAN South are prioritized, and broader national applicability is considered an advantage.

Priority areas for 2026 project funding:

  • Clinical/translational cancer research that closely benefits patients
  • Implementation of new diagnostic methods enabling personalized cancer care across the FICAN South area
  • Planning and implementation of cancer care pathways and regional care chains
  • Projects focused on supporting and/or rehabilitating patients
  • Development of the quality, effectiveness, and patient safety of cancer treatments in the FICAN South area

The application is submitted via a Webropol form. Link to the application form:

  • Appendix 1: Project plan, maximum length 1.5 pages, font size 11, line spacing 1 (Word or PDF)
  • Appendix 2: Project budget (Word, PDF, or Excel file)

The application deadline is Monday, December 8, 2025, at 3 PM

In the evaluation, emphasis is placed on collaboration between FICAN South contracting parties, especially the involvement of Wellbeing Services Counties. The aim of the project funding is to encourage clinicians, researchers, and healthcare professionals interested in clinical research and development projects to initiate collaborative projects within the FICAN South area. Broader national applicability is considered an advantage. The evaluation will consider the concrete benefit to patients achieved by the project. Other significant funding of the project/applicant will be assessed in the granting of FICAN South funding.

Funded projects are required to report project costs on a quarterly basis. The awarded project funding, which is subject to the confirmation of budgets by FICAN South’s contracting parties, will be available by the end of 2026.
