Clinical Activities
Uniform national guidelines
We support clinical activities as an integrative unit within the Southern Finland Collaborative Area (YTA) among three central hospitals and HUS’s departments. We also work closely with other regional cancer centers and FICAN´s coordinating unit. An important part of equitable and effective care is unified national care guidelines, which is one of the priority areas of the FICAN South.
Rare Cancers Entity
We successfully participated in applying for membership in the European network for adult rare cancers (ERN EURACAN). Together with the FICAN Mid, we launched the Rare Cancers and hereditary syndromes project. The project has expanded into national activities to develop care pathways and medical treatment for patients with rare cancers.
Consistent quality and Effectiveness of Care
The functionality of central hospitals and their flexible cooperation with the university hospital are essential for achieving equal and optimal cancer care in the Southern Finland area. The mission of the FICAN South is to coordinate cancer treatment practices in hospitals to ensure the best possible equitable cancer care in the Southern Finland Collaborative Area.
Cancer Screening
The National Cancer Screening Steering Group guides, monitors, and investigates the initiation, implementation, and development of cancer screening.
A representative from the FICAN South is part of the steering group, which consists of representatives from the Finnish Cancer Center FICAN and its coordinating unit, five regional cancer centers, the Finnish Cancer Registry, and the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health (STM).
