FICAN South´s call for project proposals for 2027 has opened

Published 29.10.2026

The 2027 call for project proposals will be specifically targeted at projects from HUS and the wellbeing services counties of South Karelia, Kymenlaakso and Päijät-Häme.

FICAN South project funding is administered by HUS, and the funding must be used by the end of 2027.

In the 2027 call for project proposals, both the project leader and the deputy project leader must have their main employment with HUS or a wellbeing services county. The evaluation of applications will place particular emphasis on the participation of organisations within the Southern Finland collaborative area. For clinical cancer research projects, the necessary regulatory approvals must have been obtained or applications for these approvals must have been submitted.

Priority areas for 2027 project funding:

  • Clinical cancer research that benefits patients
  • Planning and implementation of cancer care pathways and regional care chains
  • Patient support and/or rehabilitation
  • Improving the quality, effectiveness and patient safety of cancer care

The application is submitted via the Webropol form:

Attach the following free-form appendices to your project proposal:

  • Appendix 1: Project plan, maximum length 1.5 pages, font size 11, line spacing 1 (Word or PDF)
  • Appendix 2: Project budget (Word, PDF, or Excel file)

The application deadline is Monday 30 November 2026, at 3 PM.

The project funding aims to encourage clinicians, clinical cancer researchers and other healthcare professionals to initiate clinical research and development projects within the FICAN South collaborative area. The evaluation of applications will place particular emphasis on collaboration between wellbeing services counties. The project’s broader national applicability will be considered an advantage. The evaluation will also consider the concrete benefit the project is expected to deliver to patients.

Funding decisions will consider other funding awarded to the project, as well as any previous FICAN South project funding it has received. The same project may be awarded FICAN South project funding on a maximum of three occasions.

The call for project proposals is launched on a conditional basis. Funding decisions can be made once FICAN South’s contracting parties have confirmed their contractual funding contributions for 2027 operations.

Funded projects are required to report project costs on a quarterly basis.
